dark spots

Dark spots, also known as black spots, occur because of the over secretion of melanin. It’s a pigment responsible for the skin’s color. Different people may have dark spots in varied shades and sizes. In either case, they are a source of distress. They are common in both men and women.

So many over-the-counter products for dark spots are out there. I went to a nearby convenience store to get one for myself. Well, I must say, it’s not easy to pick one. I got overwhelmed just like I got confused at the time when I was searching the web for Spectrum Select package. Each product promised to reduce dark spots. But I didn’t have time to try all of them. Eventually, I decided to try a bunch of home remedies. The results were slow but permanent.

Here’s my list of tried and tested home remedies for reducing dark spots. Pick one and be consistent with it.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is acidic in nature. It plays the role of a bleaching agent and reduces discoloration as well. To use it for treating dark spots, take a cotton ball and dip it in the juice. Apply it onto your spots twice a day.

It’s best to test it on a small area of your skin. If you have sensitive skin, dilute it with water.

Potato Slices or Juice

Potatoes are great at whitening dark spots and reducing blemishes. You can either slice them thinly or apply potato juice onto the area that is affected. Let it sit for a few minutes and then you can rinse it with water. You will notice the difference within a week.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe Vera is full of antioxidants and vitamins such as A, C, and E. It has the ability to reduce brown spots and even skin tone.

Vitamin A speeds the natural shedding process of the skin. Vitamin C improves the complexion and Vitamin E renews the epidermis. It’s particularly effective in treating dark spots caused by sun exposure.

You can extract the gel from a home plant or you can get Aloe Vera gel from a food store. Apply it onto your skin directly. It’s best if you dilute it a little bit before applying it to your skin directly.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E plays a significant role in reducing discoloration problems. Even dermatologists swear by it. This explains why it is a vital ingredient in a number of skincare products. It also targets free radicals that cause aging. It can help repair damaged cells. You don’t have to mix it with other ingredients. It can be applied to the skin directly because it’s safe.

It’s best to get Vitamin E oil and apply a few drops onto the affected area. Make sure you rub the skin. The best time to apply Vitamin E oil is before going to bed.

Pineapple

Pineapple helps in whitening the skin. It’s rich in natural acids. Use a cotton pad to apply it to the affected areas. Rinse the skin after 5 minutes. You can also rub thin slices of pineapple on your skin.

Chickpeas

Chickpeas are great when it comes to reducing dark spots. You will need half a cup of chickpeas and half a cup of water. Boil the peas in water until they are completely soft. Then, blend them along with the water to create a thick paste.

Apply this mixture onto your face and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash it off your face with clean water. You must follow this remedy daily to see visible results.

Oat and Yogurt Mix

For creating the oat and yogurt mask, you will need 1 tablespoon of oats and 2 tablespoons of yogurt. It must not contain any additives though. Apply this mixture onto your face. Rinse your face with water after 20 minutes.

Turmeric

You might not be very positive about putting a pigmented yellow-colored ingredient on your face but you will be glad to know it’s great at fighting off dark spots. Turmeric is rich in curcumin. It’s a powerful antioxidant that can fight free radicals and remove dark spots.

You will have to apply it by mixing it with other ingredients such as milk and lemon juice. Take half teaspoon of turmeric and add 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix it well and apply a thin layer of this mixture onto your face. Massage it onto the dark posts as well. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse with water. Apply this remedy onto the affected area every other day.

Conclusion

In case these remedies don’t show any improvement or your condition gets worse, stop them immediately. Visit your dermatologist. They might be able to tell you an effective remedy for your dark spot problem.
