What is the Difference Between DTY and FDY

FDY

FDY is fully drawing yarn which is also known as SDY and PFY (polyester filament yarn). Both have the same manufacturing process but the speed is higher than the other. This is highly used in making non-textured fabric like diapers for babies, carpets for furnishing, furnisher covers, clothes for hospitals, pads for women, healing wounds clothes, tissues that are wet in condition, napkins which are used in sanitary purposes, surgical sets, etc.

FDY yarn is used in fabric manufacturing and highly yarn which is in filaments wrapped over bobbins. This high-strength yarn has a lot of applications like when high-quality undergarments made from FDY dyed yarn, denim fabrics, towels of terry, and non-textured clothes. In the textile industry it is highly used for instance FDY yarn has high shrinkage so that’s used in curtains and fabricated clothes, creating blooming structures over the fabric’s surface. With lower shrinkage, it is also used in the blanket industry.

DTY

It is drawn textured yarn used in twisting, stretching, and texturing manufacturing of this yarn. Due to the twisted process, this yarn increases its strength and elasticity. Various knitting and weaving are used in the textile industry. When polyester POY drew and twisted in the manufacturing of yarn. When POY is directly curled, diapers and filaments are made in a bulky way. Knitting and weaving fabric and used in various applications like seat covers which are used in bikes, cars buses, and various vehicles, bags of different purposes for students and travellers, shoes that are used in high-end quality and design, and bags used in sports. The brightness of these DTY yarns depends upon the selection process of filaments.

Various technical ways are used for making this type of strong DTY yarn like heater 1 DTY yarn is used for making woollen and stretchable yarn when compared with yarn manufactured in heater 2. Due to the tangle in the knot, it’s a more powerful yarn as compared with other yarn.

Three types of thread are made under the DTY section simple, comingle, and intermingle this type of thread is used in making sofa sets, shirts, the cover of carpets, suits with high end, carpets used in prayer and also used in various industrial usage.

Key differences

Process of manufacturing –

  • FDY is a fully drawn yarn which a technical way but not as much as in DTY a simple yarn with white color which is used in hospital staff fabric because color is not necessary in these departments.
  • DTY Dyed Yarn is manufactured in various technical ways. When these yarn-making twisted tangle are used that’s why strength is more elastic and strong. In manufacturing, color is also used that’s why knitting and weaving this yarn is widely used. A beautiful fabric comes out of these yarns which are used in the fashion industry.

Stretch and strength –

  • As FDY is fully drawn that’s why it’s got higher strength. Due to nature and fully drawn strength long-lasting. Fabric made from this yarn is strength easily checked through thread stretching. When the fabric is made then it’s checked the durability of that fabric.
  • DTY is highly climb, retention, and durability is more than FDY because this melded in various processes in which heating and various technical help with specific needs of the yarn. Twisted and intermingled add extra strength to yarn. The fabric got more flexibility due to the strength of the yarn.

Feel of hand and texture-

  • Due to the crimpness of yarn in the fabric, these crimps create a soft feeling after touching that fabric. Due to the softness of fabric, it is also used in making under/inner clothes which are sold at high prices due to the softness of fabric soft feeling of touch.
  • In FDY yarn smoothness in fabric is highly used in non-textured fabric and sportswear. Due to the elasticity of yarn fabric elasticity is also in demand. But in softness, DTY is softer than this yarn fabric.

Application applied

DTY application is used in softer fabric so usage is not as much as in FDY application. The usage of both yarns is too much now in demand but due to their texture or non-texture features their usage is different among different industries.
