Should Detox

Do you feeling run down, fatigued, sluggish, or confused much of the time? Do you struggle to lose weight, even though you are doing everything right? Is your skin dull, oily, or prone to breakouts? If so, it may be time to let your body rest and reset through a detoxification period. But what exactly does it mean to detox? More importantly, what can a detox do for your body? Detoxing has been practiced for thousands of years around the world. It involves removing and eliminating toxins from your body which can help protect you from disease and keep you living a vibrant, healthy life.

Detoxification means to cleanse the entire body, including all of your organs, of toxins and impurities. Toxins are all around us, from the food you eat to the air you breathe. Fortunately, the body was built with an incredible filtration system to keep you clean and healthy. Sometimes though, the body can become overloaded, especially during periods of high stress or in highly polluted areas. This is when a detox program can assist the body in removing the excess toxins and get you back to optimal health!

There is a wide variety of detox options available and while one program may be beneficial for some people, it may not be so great for others. The key is to look for a program that allows the organs to rest and refuels the body with nutrients. Some popular detox programs include fasting, juicing, or dieting. Once you have completed the program, you can continue to support your detox efforts through some simple lifestyle changes. Below are several easy and healthy ways to jump-start your detox and maintain a cleansed body.

1. Exercise every day

Activities such as a brisk walk or cycling will help to increase circulation which will push toxins out of the body.

2. Drink plenty of water

There has been some debate as far as the exact amount of water you should drink every day. A good rule of thumb is that if your urine is clear, you are properly hydrated.

3. Take a detox bath

Adding 2 cups of Epsom salts to your bathwater will cause you to sweat rather profusely. Sweating is a great way to rid the body of toxins. Once you’ve added the salts to your bathwater, simply soak in the tub for about 30 minutes. Be careful when you stand up! You might feel a bit off-balance from the heat of the water. You can continue the detox process by lying down, covered with a towel. You should continue to sweat for about 20 minutes or so. Once you stop sweating, you may want to take a quick shower to rinse the sweat and salts off your body.

4. Dry brush your entire body

You can find special dry brushes at health food shops and natural product stores. Using broad, sweeping strokes, brush your entire body towards the heart. This will increase circulation and encourage waste removal through your lymph nodes. As an added bonus, your skin will give off a glowing and youthful appearance.

5. Eat plenty of detoxifying foods

Goji berries are full of vitamin C which can help to remove waste from the body. Other sources of vitamin C include kiwi, broccoli, and bell peppers. One of the easiest ways to sneak more detoxifying foods into your diet is to search online for new recipes! You can even ask your friends and family for their favorite recipes.

It is recommended that you detox at least once a year to clear all the excess junk out of your system. Detoxifying may feel unnatural at first, but after a while, you will begin to feel yourself come alive. As always, it is a good idea to consult with your doctor before beginning any type of program, especially if you have any type of medical condition.
